We got a new number

We have got a new number making it simpler and cheaper for you to contact us. We just don’t know why we did not think of this sooner but it was not until someone said “why don’t you get a freephone number? It cost nothing for someone to find out how you can help them.”

Mmm I thought…..what will that cost us? How will it help? and how difficult will it be to set up? So I did a bit of research, asked a few questions and spoke to a friend who had used freephone numbers before and was utterly amazed. It could not be that simple could it?

Yup it is that simple. Simple to set up and surprisingly cheep too. I don’t know why I had thought it would be difficult or expensive and what’s more it helps everyone get a better service and I like that idea a lot. My enquiries into freephone numbers highlighted a number of benefits that you might find useful if you are thinking of doing the same.

Research indicates that having a freephone number means that customers are over 60% more likely to call as well as increasing responses to adverts and enticing new customers to call you first as you convey a more professional image that cares about its customers.

Also most 0800 Numbers can be easily diverted to a landline or mobile number so if we are out of the office it can offer greater flexibility. We can keep the same number regardless even if we move offices. This allows our business to operates with no need to change our stationery, signs or websites so you will always be able to find us.

We chose to use Numbergroup.com as we liked the fact that it was so simple to set up and running within half an hour of speaking to them and we thought was a very efficient service that we would happily recommend to anyone.
Oh yes, I nearly forgot to add our Freephone number which is

Stain removal some basic rules

Accidents do happen no matter how careful we might try to be. Knowing the best way to deal with these problems when they happen is vital. Here are a few tips that we have picked up over the years when dealing with fabric stains and we thought that it might be useful for you. Enjoy reading….

  • Deal with any stain as soon as possible. The sooner you take action the easier it will be to remove the stain.
  • Don’t use heat on the fabric until you have dealt with the stain as many foods contain proteins that can be made permanent by any applied heat to the stain on fabrics. Don’t be tempted to rinse or sponge with hot water or steam from a boiling kettle.
  • Scrape off solid dirt and absorb any liquids as much as possible before dissolving the stain with water solvents or water and detergent working from the outside inwards to the stain.
  • Test on an unseen area of fabric before applying any stain remover as sometimes the colours might run, fade or damage the fibres of the fabric.
  • Try and be as delicate as possible if you need to scrape or rub a stain. don’t use a brush in a brushing action as this can damage the fabric more than the stain itself.
  • Try and keep the stain face down with a pad of tissue or similar underneath to absorb as much of the stain as possible.
  • If you are in any doubt about a stain or the type of material it is on you should always get it cleaned professionally to avoid doing more damage than already.
  • For carpets and upholstery a stain should be sponged and patted dry alternately so as to avoid getting the area too wet.
  • Always rinse well any area between different types of treatments as solvent should not be mixed together as different solvents and detergent will cancel each other out.
  • Don’t be tempted to try and remove all traces of a stubborn stain as often this can damage the fabric too much making that area stand out from the rest.
  • Be patient as working the cloth lightly in you fingers, rinsing and dabbing gently will work much better in the end than over zealous scrubbing or scraping.

Clearing rubbish doesn’t have to be dirty

We all need to clear rubbish from time to time but getting a skip has a number of problems associated with it. First you must have somewhere to put it and in some locations this will require a licence from the local authority (which normally costs) making this more expensive. You must also do the work yourself which is not only dirty but can take time and as we all know having a skip outside soon fills up but not always with our rubbish.

A better solution is to use a specialist licensed waste carrier or rubbish clearance service. They will arrive with a truck and load and clear the rubbish for you saving you a whole lot of time and energy and it normally works out cheaper than a skip saving as much as 25% More to the point you don't have to look at a skip for days on end and a rubbish clearance service doesn't require any licence from the local authority to clear your rubbish.

As a licensed waste carrier he removes the rubbish which is recycled making the world a greener cleaner place for us all. In our area of Chelmsford we use Crarig Paul who is one of our trusted traders who recently showed us a letter from just one of his customers praising his staff for the work they had carried out which had exceeded their expectations.

Cleaning your computer

Cleaning the inside of your computer is not something that many of us think about very often but did you know it is vital to the smooth running of your PC because it keeps the system cool. Dirt from pets and cigarette smoke as well as airborne dust clogs the vents and fans in your computer causing the system to heat up and heat is the biggest cause of component failure in computers. Regular cleaning and maintenance could save you costly bills in the long run.

How often you should clean your computer is dependant on the environment it is in. On average it is recommeded that you clean it. every 6 months to a year or more often if is in a particularly dusty environment. You can take it to a small local repair man who can do the job for you at a small charge. I would not recommend one of the larger retailers as they will charge considerably more as they are generally only interested in supplying new equipment rather than repairing existing appliances.

If you are comfortable opening and cleaning the inside of your computer yourself here are a number of points that will help you to clean the dust and debris making your computer run more smoothly and efficiently. I have included a number of useful links at the end of this article for further reading and help should you require it.

First switch off the power supply, however you should beware as with any electrical equipment there is the possibility of residual current remaining in the system and I would strongly recommend that you leave it plugged in for a short while as any residual or static charge is still earthed reducing the risk to yourself and your equipment.

Once you have removed the casing it will be obvious where the dirt is. Warning! There are two schools of thought concerning cleaning the inside of a computer and I am not going to say which is right or wrong only that you must make up your own mind on this particular issue. In one camp are those who recommend using the soft brush attachment on your hoover to lightly clean the accumulated dust from fans and filters as well as the front, back or side panels. It is important that you are careful and try and avoid too much contact with the components as this may cause unnecessary damage to the computer. All you need to do is get rid of the majority of the dirt from the major areas and all the little openings which are places where dust and dirt can accumulate.

The second school of thought says that you should never use a vacuum cleaner on your computer as a hoover can creat static electricity which will easily damage the delicate components like the motherboard, hard drive or video card. Instead you should invest in a can of compressed air which is designed for cleaning computer hardware and is available at most major computer stores.

Hold the can about four inches away while keeping the fan
still with a small screwdriver or pen. Blow air from the back of the case through the fan and then all around the components inside and along the bottom using a soft bristle brush to loosen any tough patches of dust or dirt taking care to touch as little as possible.

Lastly you can clean your floppy disk and CD drives by gently blowing air into them and wipe down the inside cover with a lightly dampened cloth before replacing the cover. All this should keep your PC running smoothly for years to come.

clear as glass

Cleaning windows is one of those tasks that we just don’t seem to do that often as it is a tiresome job that just take too long to do well. We felt it would be a good idea to let you have a few secrets that will make it light work to polish up your windows.

Most of us use too much detergent leaving nasty streaks on the glass which is hard remove. The simple answer is don’t use detergent just use clean warm water or add a little vinegar to remove any grease that might be on the glass. If you feel that detergent is necessary then just use less.

Using a soft cloth (it does not need to be that wet) wash down the frame first. After that begin cleaning the window pane starting at the top and always working downwards, if you have a squeegee remove excess moisture in a continuous sweeping motion. You can use screwed up old newspaper to really make your windows shine.
